Retro Bowl launches on iOS and Android
New Star Games — the small British studio founded by Simon Read, already known for New Star Soccer — releases Retro Bowl on both mobile platforms. Its Tecmo Bowl-inspired pixel art and coach-style franchise mode immediately set it apart from licensed football titles.
2020–2021
The browser version takes over schools
HTML5 builds of Retro Bowl spread across unblocked-game sites and Chromebooks. Because a full drive takes under two minutes, it becomes the between-classes game — and word of mouth does the rest.
Late 2021
YouTube creators push it to #1 on the App Store

February 2022
Nintendo Switch release
On 10 February 2022 Retro Bowl lands on its first dedicated game console, proof the little pixel football game had outgrown its mobile roots.

Retro Bowl+ arrives on Apple Arcade
A premium, ad-free edition joins Apple Arcade on 23 June 2023 with the credit-based features unlocked, bringing the game to Apple TV and Mac alongside iPhone and iPad.
September 2023
Retro Bowl College spins off
Released on 18 September 2023, the college football sequel replaces the pro draft with recruiting, transfers and program prestige — a deeper rebuild-the-roster loop that dynasty-mode fans had been asking for since launch.

NFL Retro Bowl '25 — officially licensed
On 5 September 2024 the franchise arrives on Apple Arcade with teams licensed through the NFL and the NFL Players Association: real franchises, real player names. From invented teams in 2020 to an official NFL licence in under five years.
